An introduction

Welcome to our website made in response to the Cultural Intelligence classes we are following. This website is written and composed by us - Dutch students - in order to recognise the differences and more important, the similarities between the Dutch and South African culture. It is composed in order to create understanding about many questions that arise when the topic culture is discussed. We ought to find these answers as we find culture one of the important aspects in life that could be described, as we feel - culture brings means to an end.

A culture’s significance is so profound that it touches almost every aspect of who and what we are.

‘Culture becomes the legs through which we perceive and evaluate what is going on around us’ (Henslin, 1993)

Why South Africa?

We have chosen to work with South Africa and our own familiar culture of the Netherlands as we feel that there are a lot of differences between these cultures, but also a lot of similarities to be found as these two have been touching upon each other since the Dutch colony in the Cape and the support of the Netherlands in the battle against apartheid.
